What is a ‘dedication’?

A ‘dedication’ gives parent(s) the opportunity to ‘dedicate’ their child back to God. This can be a beautiful and spiritually significant moment in the life of the child, their family and their church. A dedication service involves the parent(s) making a commitment before God and the church to raise the child in a godly way, the church making a commitment to support the parent(s) in doing so and an opportunity to pray a prayer of blessing over the child and their family.

What is a blessing?

A child 'blessing' service is a special moment where prayers of thanks and blessing are prayed over the child. Blessings are carried out whenever the parents do not have a christian faith or do not call Silver City Church their spiritual home.

What is the difference between a 'dedication' and a 'blessing'?

The main difference between a dedication service and a blessing service is the level of commitment required by the parents and the church. During a dedication service both the child's family and the church make significant commitments before God, which is why it is essential that one/both the parents are christians and that they are in good standing with Silver City Church.

A blessing service does not have the same level of commitment which is why it is more suited to families who either aren't christian, or do not call Silver City Church their spiritual home.
